2025 Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition has always been a popular choice for families who need plenty of passenger and cargo space. Aside from a cavernous cabin, the full-size, three-row SUV also boasts strong performance, exceptional comfort, and cutting-edge technology, making it an outstanding all-rounder. For the 2025 model year, Ford’s flagship SUV is set to receive a wide range of updates that will make it an even more appealing vehicle, from a redesigned exterior to a variety of tech upgrades. Here’s what we know about the 2025 Ford Expedition so far.

Exterior Updates

The prototype of the 2025 Ford Expedition was seen cruising around Dearborn, Michigan, with body-hugging camouflage wrap and an exposed face. Spy shots show that the large SUV has an entirely new front fascia that makes it look cleaner and sleeker than the 2024 model.

Ford designers have replaced the big C-bracket headlights with smaller ones that flow into a smaller egg-crate grille. Also, tapered LED daytime running lights now outline the corners and form a C shape that slopes down toward the bottom of the grille in a manner similar to the redesigned F-150. The camouflage conceals details of the lower fascia, but it can be seen that the corner vents have considerably reduced in size.

Along the sides, the Expedition doesn’t seem to have changed much. However, a closer look reveals that the chrome trim toward the rear window has been slightly raised, adding a bit of character to the SUV’s flat beltline. Additionally, the SUV appears to have a new set of 24-inch wheels.

Around the back, the prototype of the new Expedition showcases thinner wraparound taillamps with updated graphics and minor changes to the fascia. It’s highly likely that the current liftgate will be replaced with a new split-opening version. Other changes include unique trim options and several new paint colors.

Interior Enhancements

The interior of the 2025 Ford Expedition is expected to be completely revamped. It will probably feature a new infotainment screen that spans the entire dashboard, similar to the one found in the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus. Below the screen sits a series of buttons and knobs, including the rotary shift dial and media volume knob. Also, the cabin of the new Ford SUV will likely use higher-quality interior materials and improved sound insulation, making it a more pleasant place to spend time.

Performance and Engine

It’s still unclear if the 2025 Ford Expedition will receive any substantial powertrain updates. The current Expedition gets its power from a stout 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 engine that comes in three different states of tune. The lower trims are equipped with a version that generates 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The upper variants use the Platinum Series engine, which is rated at 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque in one tune and 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft in another. All three variants are mated to a slick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission.

There’s a possibility that the Blue Oval will expand the Expedition’s engine lineup to include a hybrid option. The brand announced earlier this year that it will have a hybrid powertrain for every model by the end of the decade. Currently, there’s a hybrid Ford F-150 that pairs the Expedition’s 3.6-liter EcoBoost V-6 with a 35-kW electric motor. With a total output of 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, this powertrain can be a worthy replacement for the SUV’s top-spec gas engine while delivering better gas mileage.

Safety Features

It hasn’t been confirmed whether the 2025 Ford Expedition will get any safety upgrades. However, you can expect the SUV to provide at least the same level of safety and protection as its predecessor.

The Expedition comes standard with lane-departure alert, lane-keeping assistance, forward automated emergency braking, blind-spot detection, forward-collision warning, automated high beams, rear cross-traffic warning, and rear parking sensors. There’s also a wide range of optional features available, such as pedestrian monitoring, lane-centering assistance, traffic-sign recognition, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, front parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and the semi-autonomous BlueCruise driving system. The 2025 model may offer upgraded or additional driver-assistance features.

Technology and Connectivity

As mentioned earlier, the 2025 Ford Expedition will probably be equipped with a massive infotainment screen that extends from one A-pillar to another. Measuring 48 inches wide, this display will sit behind a smaller touchscreen located between two vertical air vents. The smaller display will likely measure about 13 inches and serve as the interface for Ford’s new Digital Experience software. This software comes with fuller Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, Google Play Store, and smartphone mirroring.

Trim Levels and Pricing

The 2025 Ford Expedition should have the same six-trim lineup as the current model. The trims include the entry-level XL STX, XLT, Limited, the off-road-focused Timberline, King Ranch, and the range-topping Platinum. The new SUV is expected to have a slightly higher MSRP than the 2024 Expedition, which starts at $55,630 for the XL STX and goes all the way up to $80,800 for the Platinum.

Similar to the previous model, the 2025 Expedition will most likely offer the extended-wheelbase MAX configuration. Available on the XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum, this version is about one foot longer than the regular model, which translates to increased passenger and cargo space. For 2024, the XLT MAX has a base price of $62,695, while the Platinum MAX costs at least $83,800.
