Introducing the New 2024 Ford Explorer
The 2024 Ford Explorer will be released later this year and is part of the sixth generation of Explorers, which was first launched in 2020. Despite not being an entirely new model, the 2024 version will likely have some exciting new design and tech features. Ford managed to improve upon an already stylish vehicle by introducing a new and enlarged front grille, as well as newly designed taillights and tailgate. Although the style and design upgrades aren’t major, they manage to give the Explorer a fresh new vibe.
Excellent Performance and Fuel Economy
The 2024 Ford Explorer is very quick for its size. Its standard engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that can produce up to 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This pushes the Explorer to a speed of 60 miles per hour from a standstill in only 6 seconds, which would be an excellent time even for a sedan or hatchback. The even more impressive optional turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine generates up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque and makes the Explorer go from zero to 60 miles per hour in an astonishing 5.2 seconds.
Despite these excellent performance figures, the 2024 Explorer also has decent fuel economy. When equipped with its standard engine, it has a combined mpg of 24, with around 21 mpg in city traffic and 28 mpg on the highway. The more powerful V-6 engine has a slightly lower fuel economy, with 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. There’s also a hybrid powertrain option, for those who often use their Explorer in city traffic and want to reduce their fuel consumption. It gets around 28 mpg in the city and has up to 318 horsepower.
Modern and Stylish Inside and Out
Despite being introduced in 2020, this Ford Explorer generation still looks as fresh as it did three years ago, partly due to its small design updates. On the outside, even the base version comes with useful and great-looking features, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and a power liftgate. Higher trims add even more exciting and useful exterior features, such as roof rails, larger 20- and 21-inch wheels in different colors, and power-folding exterior mirrors with LED signal indicators. There are also special appearance packages available, adding black or chrome elements to the Explorer’s exterior.
On the interior, the 2024 Ford Explorer excellently combines great looks with functionality. The driver’s seat is not only spacious and configurable but also provides the driver with plenty of visibility. In addition, there’s plenty of cargo space behind the three rows of seats, which can be very helpful when taking the Explorer on long road trips with friends and family.
Modern Infotainment Technology
No modern vehicle would be complete without infotainment tech. A six-speaker audio system and the FordPass Connect service are also standard. The latter provides Wi-Fi access and remote engine start, among others.
Supreme Interior Comfort
The 2024 Explorer not only looks good but it’s also comfortable for everyone inside. Ford has shaped the seats to provide both comfort and support even on long drives and the wide door openings make it easy to get in and out regardless of passenger size. There’s also plenty of legroom, even in the third row. The cabin is also well insulated, keeping most wind, engine, and road noises on the outside. The suspension system also plays a major part in keeping everyone comfortable, as it manages to cancel out most minor road imperfections.
Multiple Active Safety Systems
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2023 Explorer a Top Safety Pick rating, and the 2024 version will likely get the same score due to them being structurally similar. However, modern vehicle safety isn’t just about how well it holds up after a crash but also about the technology that helps the driver avoid it in the first place. Some useful driver aids that come standard with the 2024 Ford Explorer are:
- Forward collision mitigation system: It issues a warning in case of an imminent frontal collision and even applies the brakes if the driver doesn’t react on time.
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning system: It alerts the driver if another driver either enters the Explorer’s blind spot or approaches from either side while backing up.
- Lane departure mitigation system: It warns the driver if the Explorer drifts out of its lane without the turn signal being activated and even steers it back automatically to maintain its initial position.
